Creating a Plan that Works
September 25th 2007
I have met many people who are trying to establish their small business. They have seen the typical obstacles that small business owners encounter (too few resources to get things done) and are always looking for a better way to do things.
The funny thing is, a lot of the plans that I see (or hear about) have a serious flaw: they require that the plan be executed flawlessly. There is no room for error and when the plan fails, they are shocked.
If you are putting together a plan that requires flawless execution in order to be successful, then perhaps you should consider Plan B. This is in line with the saying “the definition of insanity is doing some thing the same way over and over, and expecting different results.”
Instead of banging your head against the wall, wondering why things aren’t working out for you, take a step back and consider if your plan is well thought out, and if there is any room for error when you execute the plan. Trust me on this, even though the plan says that you’ll get things done by the deadline, you should consider what will happen when you can only deliver 1/3 of the final deliverable…
