The Lion Loses His Lunch: A Marketing Fable
December 5th 2007
I was reading to my son the other night and stumbled across an Aesop fable that I thought was really apt for many of the business environments that I’ve encountered.
As a hungry lion prowled across the grassy plains, he came across a sleeping hare. The lion licked his lips, his mouth watering. “Lunch—how delicious,” he thought.
Just as he was about to pounce, he heard rustling and the pounding of hooves. A zebra dashed out of the bushes. The lion hesitated. A zebra would make a much bigger meal. The lion chased after the zebra, but the zebra was too fast. At last the lion gave up and the zebra was soon far away.
The lion turned around and padded silently back to where the bare had been sleeping. She was nowhere to be seen.
Lie the zebra, the hare had also escaped—and the lion had foolishly lost his lunch.”
